Conserve Precious Liquids in Non-Pressurized Systems with 1/8 NPT Siphon Fed No Drip Nozzle

EXAIR’s new 1/8 NPT No Drip Siphon Fed Air Atomizing Spray Nozzles provide consistent and even flow of non-pressurized liquid for applications like marking, lubricating, rinsing, cooling, quenching, wetting (moistening), dust control and humidification. The intelligent design of this Siphon Fed spray nozzle allows for the absence of liquid pressure and in turn, uses gravity fed liquids or lifted liquids from a siphon height of 36 inches (91cm) with the added benefit of positively stopping liquid flow when compressed air is shut off.

Post spray drips waste precious resources such as expensive coatings, chemicals or water, and unwanted drips can ruin product function on sealing or mating surfaces as well as ruin the appearance of painted or coated finishes. EXAIR’s No Drip Atomizing Nozzles are ideal for these situations where no post-spray drip is permissible. When the compressed air supply is shut off, the no drip nozzle positively seals off the flow of liquid eliminating the possibility of drips.

EXAIR's No Drip Siphon Fed Atomizing Nozzles are available in round and flat fan liquid patterns. The volume of liquid flow depends on either the gravity or suction height coupled with air pressure. All of EXAIR’s spray nozzles, which include nozzles for pressure fed applications, are composed of 303 stainless steel adding durability and corrosion resistance.  They are available with 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 NPT inlets with a variety of styles, flow rates and liquid patterns. Mounting brackets are also available for easy installation in specific areas on product lines. They are CE compliant and conflict mineral free.

Save Money by Installing Super Air Knives on Converting Machine !

Our Vivekengineers often works with the customers to create a customized solution that best serves the  application. Recently our principal Exair had the pleasure of working with a customer who wanted a better solution on their tissue paper converting machine. What they currently had was too loud, too inefficient, and they knew there was a better way.

The machine was an old rewinder used to convert webs of tissue paper ranging from 99-115” in width. Installed on the old machine was a 115” drilled pipe with 1/16” drilled holes spaced out every ½” along the length of the pipe. This was using a substantial amount of compressed air and was significantly louder than they would’ve liked. They purchased a new machine that had an EXAIR Super Air Knife already installed and working great, so they reached out to Exair for some help.

The customer conducted some time studies to determine exactly how much air this application required. The air blast ran for 500 seconds per hour, equating to 8.3min/hr of air usage. The operation runs 24/7, but with time spent doing changeovers the actual run time is closer to 20hrs.

20hrs x 8.2min = 166 min/day of air usage

166min x 365 = 60,590 min per year

A 1/16” unpolished, drilled hole will consume 2.58 SCFM at a pressure of 60 PSIG. With a total of 228 holes across the full pipe, this is quite a bit of compressed air.

2.58 SCFM x 228 = 588 SCFM of compressed air

588 x 60,590 min = 35,626,920 SCF

Considering the lightweight nature of the material, we recommended that the customer use our .001” shim to cut the flow from Exair Super Air Knives to their minimum. Exair recommended the Model 110054-.001 and Model 110060-.001. At 60 PSIG, a Super Air Knife with .001 shim installed will consume 1.15 SCFM/inch of knife length.

114 x 1.15 SCFM = 131 SCFM of compressed air

131 x 60,590 min = 7,937,290 SCF

Installing the Super Air Knives with .001” shim reduced their air consumption by 77% for a total air savings of 27,689,630 SCF each year. But, what does this mean in terms of money? Really Exair super Air knife does a good amount of saving.

In just one year, on this one single machine, this customer was able to save a good amount of money  per year. These knives quickly pay for themselves, then begin to contribute to your bottom line. All of this in addition to lowering the sound level and providing a safer working environment for their operators.

Exair Heavy Duty Line Vac Solves Alumina Spillage Problem

The image below shows spillage of small alumina particles at an aluminum manufacturing plant. This customer needed a method to vacuum the spilled material and return it to the main hopper.  The ideal solution needed to be compact, simple, and provide repeatable results.  All of these are key aspects of EXAIR Line Vacs, so our principal  began discussing application variables to make a solution recommendation.

Spilled alumina material which needs to be vacuumed and returned to the main hopper
.

Whenever Exair team considers Line Vac applications they always explore the following variables:

  •      Bulk density of the material
  •      Size of the material
  •      Conveyance height
  •      Conveyance distance
  •      Required conveyance rate
  •      Available compressed air supply
The spilled alumina in this application has a bulk density of 1.1 g/cm³ (~68.7 pounds/ft³) which needs to be conveyed to a height of 3.3m (~11ft.).  The conveyance rate is not mandated, but the alumina particles are rather small in diameter and the customer wanted to move as much material as possible in as little time as possible.  Compressed air is readily available at proper pressures and flows, so Exair team was left to determine whether a Line Vac could be a viable solution.  Fortunately Exair team has found success in transferring alumina with our Line Vacs in multiple applications before, so Exair team was confident they could find a solution here as well.

The height of this application is 3308mm (~11ft.) – an easy conveyance height for an EXAIR Line Vac.
After exploring the specifics of this application Exair team determined the best solution to be the 2” Heavy Duty Line Vac model 150200.  The 150200 Heavy Duty Line Vac can easily move the alumina to a height of 3.3m at an estimated conveyance rate of 11kg/minute (25 pounds/minute).  There are no moving parts to wear out, which means little to no maintenance and reliable performance each time the Line Vac is used.

EXAIR Heavy Duty Dry Vac For Tough and Abrasive Materials

Naturally, spring is the time of year that we roll up our sleeves and do some of the deep-cleaning we’ve been putting off all winter. So EXAIR has an entire line of Industrial Housekeeping Products that will get your shop tidied up for spring. With no moving parts to wear out and no electrical requirement, these products are Built to Last. For applications requiring you to vacuum harsh or abrasive materials, look no further than EXAIR’s Heavy Duty Dry Vac.

Electrically powered vacuums or shop vacuums are not designed to be operated in a rugged industrial environment. Filters clog, motors wear out, and you find yourself frequently replacing them. EXAIR’s Heavy Duty Dry Vac has NO moving parts to wear out, doesn’t require maintenance, and needs nothing but a source of compressed air to operate. A static resistant hose also prevents painful shocks when working with dry, dusty materials.

The vacuum generator is constructed of a hardened steel alloy designed to be resistant to abrasion and delivers a powerful vacuum level of -60” H2O at 80 PSIG. The lever lock drum lid fits any open top 30, 55, or 110 gallon drum. Moving the system from one drum to another can be done quickly, allowing you to keep different materials separate for recycling. Recycling companies will pay a premium for pre-sorted materials, allowing you to get more out of your otherwise scrap material. It can be used with any open head steel, fiber, or plastic drum in good condition.

If you don’t have a spare drum available, not to worry! EXAIR also sells a Premium Heavy Duty Dry Vac System that will include either a 30, 55, or 110 gallon drum and dolly.

You wouldn’t use a hammer to try and drive in a screw, so don’t try and force a shop vac or electric vacuum to deal with these harsh materials. Get yourself the right tool for the job and give an EXAIR Vac a try.
